RPP seeks probe into alleged extortion by RD dept.

Dimapur, Sep. 14 (EMN): Risings People’s Party (RPP) has written to the State Crime Police Station to investigate into the alleged extortion by Rural Development (RD) department with regard to PMAY-G scheme in the state.

A RPP letter undersigned by its generally secretary, Amai Chingkhu, and the secretary, Akum Longkumer, addressed to the Officer in Charge of State Crime Police Station, PHQ, on September 13, claimed that it has received complaints from over the state pertaining to the PMAY-G scheme and subsequent threats to the beneficiary villagers.

The letter, which was posted on face book page called “Rising People’s Party,” RPP stated that they have received complaints that the “RD department is harassing the poor beneficiates at the behest of NDPP-BJP coalition.” It has termed as a serious issue which cannot be ignored by the Crime Branch.

The letter mentioned that, years back thousands of beneficiaries were identified and a first installment of INR 22,000 approximate was deposited into the beneficiary account, for the construction of houses under the said scheme.

“Much later, after the release of the second instalment, that is INR  88,000 into the accounts of the same beneficiaries, the RD department officials are now demanding that the beneficiaries withdraw the amount of INR 78,000 and hand over the cash to the respective BDOS”, the letter stated.

While citing that the installment amount may vary block wise, the letter asserted that the gist of the complaint was the extortion aspect which ‘the Crime Branch is more than competent to investigate.’

“The RPP is submitting this complaint believing that the State Crime Police Station will investigate the subject matter in all seriousness regardless of political pressure which will surely be exerted upon your authority,” it added.
