Dimapur, May 23 (EMN): Rising People’s Party (RPP) has questioned the felling of teak trees inside Chumoukedima Police Complex.

RPP stated that forest laws are stringent in India, and require clearance at different levels to cut down even a single tree.

It therefore asked for an explanation from the deputy chief minister how “50 years old trees – as per the pictures circulated in social media, possibly worth crores of rupees in the open market, could be felled without any procedures being followed?,” read the statement.

It further claimed that as per the statement given by the state DGP, ‘no procedures were followed’.

“In any other state in India, there would have been swift retribution but it’s all too apparent that the UDA coalition is waiting for the issue to die down,” it added.
