RPF seizes contraband worth INR 1.22 crore in June

DIMAPUR — The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has recovered contraband items worth more than INR 1.22 crore from June 1 to June 15.

According to an update, the RPF also apprehended 15 individuals for alleged involvement in the transportation of contraband and smuggled items during this period. Additionally, the RPF apprehended five touts and recovered railway tickets worth over INR 90,000 from them.

On June 13, the RPF and GRP of Guwahati conducted a check on train No. 15817 DN (Donyi Polo Express) at Guwahati railway station. During the inspection, they apprehended two individuals and recovered 89 grams of brown sugar worth approximately INR 17.80 lakh.

The apprehended individuals, along with the recovered brown sugar, were later handed over to the OC/GRP/Guwahati for necessary legal action.

On June 9, the RPF team of Kishanganj and the CIB team of New Jalpaiguri jointly conducted a raid and search operation at the PRS counter of Aluabari Road railway station. During the raid, the team recovered 21 PRS tickets worth around INR 55,223 and apprehended one tout in connection with this.

Subsequently, a case was registered under Section 143 of the Railways Act for further action.

It was mentioned that from January to May 2024, the RPF recovered contraband and smuggled goods worth more than INR 16.21 crore and apprehended 217 individuals. Also, 119 touts were apprehended, and railway tickets worth more than INR 21.98 lakh were recovered during this period.

All the apprehended individuals were prosecuted under the relevant sections of the Railways Act.
