RPF seizes contraband items worth INR 1.69 crore

Dimapur, June 24 (EMN): Continuing the fight against transportation of contraband items on trains, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered contraband goods worth INR 47.55 lakh from June 13 to the 20th. The contraband items included morphine valued at approximately INR 43 lakh and ganja worth INR 4.55 lakh during regular checks and drives at various stations and trains over NF Railway.

In an incident on June 13, RPF team of Agartala recovered two unclaimed bags containing two packets of ganja weighing 3.5 kg worth INR 35 thousand on train no. 01666 DN (Habibganj Express) special at Agartala railway station and handed it over to OC/GRP/Agartala for further legal action.

In another incident on June 15, RPF team Kamakhya conducted a joint check with GRP/Kamakhya in train no. 02346 DN (Saraighat Express) special at Kamakhya Railway Station and detained one person with a bag containing four packets of suspected morphine wrapped in polythene. On further interrogation, the person has been identified as a resident of Lilong Khunou village of Thoubal district in Manipur with 2.710 kg of suspected morphine valued at approximately INR 43 lakh.

On June 17, during a routine check in train no. 03174 DN (Kanchanjunga Express) special at Agartala Railway Station, RPF team of Agartala recovered one unclaimed bag from the berth of a coach with 11 packets of ganja weighing about 21 kg valued at INR 2.10 lakh.

Meanwhile, on June 17 train escort party of RPF outpost/Dhupguri recovered one unclaimed bag in a coach containing 16.40 kg of ganja worth INR 1.60 lakh while escorting train no. 03148 DN (Uttar Banga Express) special. Moreover, on June 20, the train escort party of train no. 02510 DN (Guwahati-Bangalore cant) special detected five packets of suspected ganja in one unclaimed bag in a coach of the train. On arrival of the train at New Coochbehar Station, RPF team of New Coochbehar recovered 5.250 kg ganja worth INR 50 thousand from the bag. So far, the RPF of NF Railway has recovered contraband items worth INR 1.69 crore from January up to June.
