RPF cracks down on railway theft, makes multiple arrests 

DIMAPUR — Between September 17 and 28, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of N F Railway arrested 18 people who were involved in the theft of passengers’ belongings while conducting routine checks and drives within the zone.

According to a press release, they recovered valuables worth approximately INR 3,49,200 from railway stations in New Jalpaiguri, Lumding, Kishanganj, Dimapur, Jagiroad, New Bongaigaon, Barpeta Road, Hojai, and Guwahati during this check.

On September 25, the RPF team of Hojai apprehended three people and recovered six mobile phones worth INR 76,800 and cash worth INR 5,400 stolen from passengers during a routine check at the Hojai railway station.

The recovered items and apprehended persons were later handed over to the inspector in charge of GRP/Hojai for further action.

On Sep. 20, an RPF team from Lumding apprehended one person and recovered a mobile phone worth approximately INR 23,000 stolen from a passenger during a routine check at Lumding railway station.

Later, the recovered mobile phone and the apprehended person were handed over to the officer in charge of GRP/Lumding, for further action.

In another incident, on September 17, the RPF team of New Jalpaiguri, in collaboration with the GRP/New Jalpaiguri, conducted a drive in train no. 15909 (Dibrugarh-Lalgarh) Avadh Assam Express at New Jalpaiguri railway station and apprehended one person with two mobile phones stolen from passengers worth approximately INR 20,000.

Later, the recovered mobile phones and the apprehended person were handed over to the officer in charge of GRP/New Jalpaiguri for further necessary proceedings.

During the month of September, the RPF arrested 82 people involved in theft, recovering belongings worth INR 13,23,885 (approx).
