
Dimapur, June 7 (EMN): District Task Force, Longleng, held a meeting on introduction of Rotavirus Vaccine in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on June 7.
Dr. Imnameren Phom, DPO (RCH/UIP), presented a power point presentation on introduction of rotavirus vaccine, clinical manifestations, global burden of rotavirus diarrhoea, rotavirus diarrhoea burden in India, modes of transmission, diagnosis and treatment, impact of rotavirus vaccine in public health programme, revised national immunisation schedule, why there is no alternative to rotavirus vaccine, safety of rotavirus vaccine, contraindications, storage, and challenges.
Deputy Commissioner, in his short speech, encouraged the attendees to sensitise the public at grassroot level and to work hand in hand. Stating that there is no specific therapy currently available for rotavirus diarrhoea, he mentioned that the benefit of the vaccine should be made known to the beneficiaries.
The DC also encouraged co-ordination between the Social Welfare department, the Education department and the Medical department for a smooth functioning. He further requested the concerned departments to sensitise and train the ASHAs and Anganwadi workers.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner; Watisangla Aier DEO; Hongpi, DPRO; Shumei, LDA CDPO office Tamlu; Henow Phom, principal of GHSS Longleng; and the staff from District Hospital, CMO office, NHM and DPMU.
