Dimapur, Aug. 31 (EMN): Rotary Club of Kohima carried out a tree plantation programme on the theme “Make Kohima Green” on August 31.
The club president, Dr. Neisatuo Mero, said that the tree plantation drive was organised as a part of its yearly plan under community services. He added that the club would continue to carry out such social services on a phase manner.
Speaking on the theme, the club president Dr. Rosemary Dzuvichu urged the members to make the state capital ‘green as a part of Rotary’s contribution towards protecting the environment.’
While attributing lack of green coverage for climatic changes in Kohima, she urged the public to plant more trees and make the difference. She expressed hope that the next project in partnering with the colony youth by ‘planting one tree, one house’ would bring about mark differences in climate change for the next five years.
The plantation drive started at the landslide prone area below Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima. The members planted more than a hundred trees at the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) ‘Cradle Ridge Centre,’ with the active involvement of children. An update from the club stated that each child planted the first tree with great excitement.
Besides the plantation drive, the club spent a memorable day by interacting with the children. The ‘Cradle Ridge Centre’ at Seithogei is being looked after by the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) for many decades.
