Rotarian medical camp: 550 free surgeries recorded

A Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, APRIL 7 One of largest medical camps till date, Rotary Rahat Medical Mission – initiated by Rotary International at District Hospital Dimapur, drew to a close on Tuesday last with the organizers informing that at least 550 surgeries were performed free of cost. At least 15 doctors from across the country were available for consultation and surgery, free of cost, for a period of nine days, from March 28 to April 5, at the medical camp. The specialties provided at the camp include eye surgery, plastic surgery, general surgery, gynecology, neurology, dermatology, orthopedics and more. Besides the surgeries performed, the Outpatient Department (OPD) established at the camp also registered 7500 patients, according to the organizers. “A series of patients were also examined during the camp for cases of skin (diseases), ENT and various other clinical problems. Free medicine was distributed to the clinical patients,” one of the organizers told Eastern Mirror. Of the surgeries performed, the highest number was in eye surgery with 228 cases. The next highest was in general surgery (133), plastic surgery (65), gynecology surgery (45), orthopedic surgery (44) and urology surgery (35). The camp was held in partnership with the state department of Health and Family Welfare and Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) where all the major surgeries were conducted.
