Roll out-cum-orientation on AB-SHWP held in Mokokchung
DIMAPUR — A roll out-cum-orientation of school principals, head teachers, district programme officers and staffs of Health and Education departments on Ayushman Bharat – School Health and Wellness Programme (AB-SHWP) was held at Penli community hall, Mokokchung, on Monday.
According to an update, the programme is a joint initiative between the ministries of Health and Family Welfare, School Education and Human Resource Development.
During her presentation, Dr. Bilva Yalie, medical officer, UPHC Siekhazou Kohima, said that the objectives and implementation of School Health and Wellness Programme (SHWP) is to increase knowledge and information about health and nutrition and enhance life skills to promote informed, responsible and healthy behaviour among school-going children.
She emphasised that creating the adolescent as agents of change or health messengers for spreading key health messages within the community.
Dr. Yalie also stressed on establishing robust linkages between schools and health and wellness centers (HWCs) and AFHCs, to insure continuum of care between HWCs, higher facilities, schools and communities.
In this regard, she mentioned that the school heads, health and wellness ambassadors (HWAs), teachers and health and wellness messengers (HWMs), in co-ordination with the AB-SHWP, can play a vital role “to foster growth, development and educational achievement of school going children by promoting their health and wellbeing.”
The programme aims to sensitise parents on the needs of growing children, engaging the students and the institutions in “Eleven themes of curriculum”, namely- Growing up healthy, emotional well-being and mental health, interpersonal relationships, values and responsible citizenship, nutrition/health and sanitation, gender equality, prevention and management of substance misuse, promotion of healthy lifestyle, reproductive health and HIV prevention, promotion of safe use of internet/gadgets and media and safety and security against violence and injuries.
AB-SHWP will continue to train the HWAs and HWMs in a batch-wise training programme on Oct. 29 and the 30 at CMO conference hall and Penli community hall, the update informed.
The trainers for the programme are Dr. Tinurenla Anichari, SNO (RKSK) NHM Nagaland;.Sudan Sonar, sr. prog. manager (IT) SPMU, NHM Nagaland; Dr. Rupert Peseyie, SNO- Maternal Health-NHM; Dr..Longri Kichu, prog. officer, UNICEF; Dr. Bilva Yalie; Zubeni N Ngullie, lecturer at DIET-Mokokchung; Dr. Limanaro, DPO-RCH-CMO Mokokchung; Dr. Arenkaba, MO (RBSK) Mokokchung and Dr. Suimzenla, MO (RBSK) Mokokchung.
