SINGER Robin Thicke has been named Sexist of the Year by a coalition of women’s groups.
The 36-year-old topped the poll carried out by the End Violence Against Women Coalition, which contains over 60 women’s rights groups, reports mirror.co.uk.The coalition’s Sarah Green said: “Our heartfelt congratulations to a worthy winner Robin Thicke for both his concerted sexist efforts, and in the end the platform he created for rejection of the use of women as objects to promote mediocre pop.”
“Sexism might be de rigueur for some music industry ‘creatives’ but the times they are a-changin’.”
The coalition stated that Thicke was chosen due to his controversial “Blurred lines” music video and lyrics.
Thicke will reportedly be awarded with a voucher to download Aretha Franklin’s classic song “Respect”.
A number of British universities have banned the song being played at their student unions, with Edinburgh University Students’ Association (EUSA) claiming that the song “promotes an unhealthy attitude towards sex and consent”.
