Dimapur, April 30 : To mark the culmination of the Road Safety Week, Dimapur traffic police personnel handed out key chains, pamphlets, calendars and sweets to motorists in Dimapur town on April 30 at the Purana Bazaar) and Holy Cross Higher Secondary School junction.
According to the additional commissioner of police for traffic, Seyiesezo Peseyie, 4000 key chains, 5000 sweets and 3000 pamphlets and posters were handed out during the drive. The key chains were sponsored by Progressive Motors and Apex Motors (2000 each), and had safety tips written on them. Peseyie said that this year they introduced key chains as they would be used every day and be a constant reminder of maintaining safety on the road.
The ‘my traffic pledge’ pamphlets distributed to motorists and commuters included road safety tips such as obeying traffic rules, and wearing helmet, and reminders against driving after drinking etc.
During the past few years the traffic department had been organising ‘reward occasions’ to motivate motorists and to spread road safety messages. Since its inception the Dimapur traffic department has also been taking up various developmental changes to improve traffic regulation and system in the city.
