River Belt Colony in Dimapur celebrated its silver jubilee on Saturday. 376 families of various tribes and communities live in the colony. The colony was established in the year 1989.
The jubilee was held at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School with MLA SI Jamir as chief guest and Additional Chief Secretary TN Mannen IAS (retired) as the guest of honor.
Speaking during the event, Si Jamir said ‘old habits and virtues which were once practiced by Naga ancestors should be revived for the betterment of the future generation.’Showing concern for the youth of Nagaland, Jamir advised the elders to ‘stay away from bad practices and by staying away from corruption as it will ultimately affect the growing generations for tomorrow.’
Calling River Belt colony a ‘matured colony’ on attaining 25 years of existence, the chief guest encouraged the gathering to continue the tradition of living in peaceful co-existence by way of setting a good example for the neighboring colonies.
Guest of Honor TN Mannen congratulated the colony for its attaining a jubilee. He said that the colony had ‘positive reputation’ earned over the years and that it had set a ‘good example that deserves to be called as a ‘model colony’ of Dimapur district.’ Mannen called ‘happiness’ the highest and most important component of life, and urged the gathering to live in peaceful coexistence. He said that the Nagas attitude of ‘asking’ has become a wrong mentality, and that now ought to be replaced by ‘giving’ in order to march towards a better future.
A souvenir was also released by chief guest during the celebration.
