Rio orders high level probe into deaths

CHIEF Minister Neiphiu Rio today has ordered constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and a High Power Committee to investigate and inquire into the murder of nine persons whose bodies were recovered by Nagaland police at Pachaspura near Chumukedima Friday night.Commissioner and Secretary to the Chief Minister, L Kire, in a release, said under the direction of the Chief Minister, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and a High Power Committee have been constituted to investigate and inquire into the crime and to bring the culprits to book.
The Chief Minister has directed that no stone be left unturned to uncover the perpetrators of the crime and to ensure that they are apprehended and punished under the appropriate provisions of the law.
Rio has condemned the crime as heinous and termed it as a reprehensible act that is repugnant to all norms of civilized human behaviour.
Rio further appealed to the people to remain calm and maintain peace in the face of such adversaries and to extend all help and assistance to the investigating agencies, especially the police.
Chief Secretary Alemtemshi Jamir, in a notification, said a special High Power Enquiry Committee has been constituted to investigate the crime.
The committee will be headed by Secretary, Justice and Law, KN Chishi as the convenor and Joint Secretary (Home) T Roy and DC, Commissioner’s Office Vikiye Kenye as members.
The government has directed the High Power Enquiry Committee to inquire the motives and reasons behind the murder and the circumstances leading to the commission of such heinous crime.
The committee has also been asked to find out whether the crime is the handiwork of individuals, groups of people or organizations and also identity of the perpetrators of the crime.
The government further directed the committee to identify the nine deceased persons and suggest remedial measures to ensure that such incidents do not recur in future.
DGP Besesayo Kezo, in an order said, a Special Investigation Team has been appointed to investigate Diphupar PS Cae No. 0001/14 U/S 302/120B IPC R/W 25(IA) Arms Act dated 04/01/2014.
DIG (Range/NAP) Kohima Liremo Lotha has been appointed as the team leader while Additional SP, Dimapur Watichuchang Jamir, SDPO Dimapur Relo Aye and OC Diphupar PS UBI Kevisebeilie are the members of the SIT.
The SIT will investigate the case in all aspects and submit the report at the earliest. IGP (Ops) will supervise the case and submit supervisory note to the DGP regularly for monitoring the progress of the case with immediate effect, the order said.

One victim identified

ONE of the nine persons who were killed in a mass massacre at Pachaspura village near Chumukedima has been identified as Harlongbi Engti Kathar 21, son of Suren Engti of Rongkangthir village under Bokajan sub-division of Karbi Anglong district of Assam. Informing this, Additional Superintendent of Police/PRO, Dimapur, in a release today, said in connection with the recovery of nine bodies from Pachaspura near Chumukedima on January 3, Dimapur police has registered a case and taken up investigation. Out of the nine bodies recovered by the police, one body has been identified by relatives today, the release said.

Rengma outfit denies hand in killings

NAGA Rengma Hills Protection Force (NRHPF)have strongly condemned the killing of what they termed the ‘unknown bodies’ recovered near Dimapur on January 4, 2013.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror the Chairman of the Naga Rengma Hills Protection Force (NRHPF) Keyhang Rengma stated that they received news of the incident late and reiterated that the outfit has no hand in the act .” Our main goal is not to hit innocent victims or even security forces but just to protect ourselves”, he added.
When the outfit is struggling to protect themselves in Karbi Anglong, why would they carry out such acts elsewhere and that too in Nagaland, the Chairman asked.
Of the nine bodies recovered all in a decomposed state from Pachaspura in Chumukedima, Dimapur one body has been identified as that of student leader Harlongbi Ingti, Secretary, Karbi Students’ Association, Bokajan Branch.
