Dimapur, Dec. 19 (EMN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio launched the Nagaland State Disaster Management Information System (NSDMIS) and Decentralised Relief Payout System (DRPS) at Chief Minister Residential Complex, Kohima, on December 16.

A statement from Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department said the DRPS is towards developing a decentralised relief payment system to fulfill the obligation of timely relief payment to the affected communities by extreme weather disaster events.

“Decentralised Relief Payout System (DRPS) is developed with an aim to provide easy access of relief services to the citizens and to mainstreaming instant and timely relief payment system for the affected community .Embarking on the blockchains technology as a powerful way to enhance—or supplant—traditional relief payment systems, NSDMA forges instant relief payment to the remote parts of the state through this platform,” it read.

The NSDMIS and DRPS is a seamless relief payment software platform powered by Block Chain Technology built by NSDMA and supported by Insu- Resilience Solution Fund from Frankfurt Institute of Finance and Management, Germany.

The InsuResilience Solutions Fund (ISF) promotes the development of innovative and sustainable climate risk insurance products in developing and emerging countries, to improve the resilience of poor and vulnerable households against the impacts of climate change and natural disasters, it said.

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Information System (NSDMIS) has been developed to simplify the core operations of NSDMA, it informed.

Core operations include keeping record of disasters and fund assistance to disaster affected people, keeping track of weather patterns to anticipate and mitigate disasters and all aspects related to disaster, disaster reduction and mitigation in line with global frameworks such as Sendai and Hyogo Frameworks.

“With increase in data and information, the NSDMIS will become a crucial decision support tool for the key decision makers. In that, the NSDMA will move a step closer towards realising its vision to make Nagaland a disaster-resilient state,” it said.
