Dimapur, Nov. 27 (EMN): Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated State Polytechnic Institute and multi utility-cum-indoor badminton stadium at Aboi town on Friday.
He was accompanied by Deputy CM Y Patton; Minister of Higher Education and Technical Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along; advisor of DUDA, N Bongkhao Konyak; DPDB Chairman, N Thongwang Konyak; advisor to CM, Medo Yhokha; and MLA of 47-Aboi A/C, Eshak Hessum, informed an update from DIPR.
Rio said at the inaugural function held at Aboi local ground that the polytechnic institute would commence its first academic session from 2021-2022. While mentioning that ‘Naga society is very young in civilisation’, he said priority is being given to backward areas and he wanted to see the people taste “the fruit of development”.
He encouraged the people to plant and preserve indigenous trees as “they are perishing from our land”. He also urged the officers to be more dedicated in their duties and encouraged them to contribute to the people in whatever way they could.
Also speaking at the event, Patton said that Rko is a champion of development, claiming that ‘for the first time in Nagaland, a chief minister and his cabinet colleague had conducted five inaugural functions in a day, in Mon district’.
Imna Along thanked the government departments and people of Aboi for their relentless effort which made the State Polytechnic Institute and multi utility-cum-indoor stadium possible.
The advisor of DUDA informed that multi utility-cum-indoor stadium was built at an estimated cost of INR 80 lakh. He added that the project funded by DUDA through Border Area Development programme and Under Development Areas programme started during 2015-16 and completed during 2017-18.
Meanwhile, Convener of Aboi District Demand Committee, Manpon Konyak read out grievances faced by the people including health facilities condition in Aboi.
The update went on to inform that Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Thavaseelan K chaired the programme, which was held in compliance with the SOP of Covid-19, and KU advisor (Aboi Unit) Maopong delivered the welcome address. An exhibition match between Chief Minister and partner Vs Badminton Club Aboi was also held.
In a separate statement, the DIPR informed that the chief minister also inaugurated the Police Station, SDO(C) and BDO offices at Angjanyang on the same day.
