Former Chief Minister of Nagaland and MP (Lok Sabha) Neiphiu Rio has called upon the heads of offices in the districts to make combined efforts to give a fillip to development of state economy particularly to kick up development at the grass root level. Addressing the District Level Vigilance & Monitoring Committee (DLVMC) meeting with Mokokchung district developmental department heads, who are responsible for implementing various centrally sponsored schemes targeted to uplift the rural poor, Rio, the chairman of the DLVMC, said that heads of departments in the districts should make concerted efforts to speed up rural development and make the rural masses self-reliance.
He urged DC Mokokchung to hold joint coordination meeting frequently to see that developmental activities are not implemented in water tight compartment manner.
He also stressed on importance of educating the rural masses to take up activities suitable to them.
Rio said that the new government at the centre has come up with a new policy to ensure that developments at the grassroots level are implemented effectively and the benefits are percolated down to the rural poor.
He said that the two MPs are assigned to keep vigilance and monitor the development.
Besides Rio, MP (Rajya Sabha), Khekiho Zhimomi, the Co-chairman of the DLVMC reviewed the performance and progress of the implementation of all flagship programmes/schemes of the Centre minutely with Rural Development, PHED, E.E PWD (R&B)E.E PWD (Housing), E.E Power, District Welfare Officer, ADS (Supply) and Land Resource Officer.
The two MPs also shared their concerns over pathetic condition of roads in the entire state adding that “there are so many roads and state cannot afford to maintain it by meager fund.
They felt that maintenance should be carried out by prioritizing the arterial roads.
Welcoming the chairman and the co-chairman of the DLVMC to the first of its kind meeting in the district, D.C Mokokchung, Sushil Kumar Patel said that the objective of the formation of DLVMC is to provide crucial role to the MPs towards over all development of the state.
