RIMS Imphal observes foundation day

IMPHAL — The 52nd foundation day of the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) was held today at its jubilee hall located inside the RIMS campus in Imphal.

Manipur Governor, Anusuiya Uikey; RIMS director Dr. G Sunil Kumar; RIMS medical superintendent Prof. N Sanjib Singh; former heads Prof. TY Babu (surgery) and Prof. DC Sharma (pathology) attended the celebration programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Anusuiya Uikey said that RIMS has rendered dedicated service to the people in the field of healthcare not only in Manipur but also in the North Eastern India.

Appealing to the doctors, nurses and paramedical staff to establish a good rapport with patients, the governor said, “Patients come to hospital with trust and they feel themselves to be in safe hands. Therefore, doctors should not only be competent but also dedicated and should provide better service to the patients. Trust in doctors helps a lot in the recovery of the patients.”

She further stated that RIMS, being the number one referral hospital, must ensure that no patient is referred to other hospitals but to provide the best care in it.

Presenting annual report of 2022-23, RIMS director, Dr. G Sunil Kumar, said the 52 year-old institute has produced 3,656 doctors, 2,225 specialists, 67 clinical psychologists and 199 bachelor of dental surgery doctors besides 376 B.Sc nursing since its establishment in 1972.

The hoisting of flag of the institute, release of annual report and magazines, distribution of the prizes and certificates to the meritorious medical students, presentation of memento to the dignitaries and holding of graduation day ceremony were the main highlights of the foundation day celebration.

Currently, the premier medical institute in the northeast India, which had once figure amongst the top 40 medical institutions and universities of India in the recent years as per National Institutional Ranking Framework of Human Resource Development ranking, offers MBBS course with 125 intake capacity, MD/MS courses in 25 subjects, DM/M Ch. courses in plastic surgery (1 seat) and Urology (2 seats) and DM Nephrology (2 seats) etc.

RIMS is one of the few institutes under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare providing an MD course in sports medicine and M Phil in clinical psychology.

The institute also has a dental college with an annual intake capacity of BDS course of 50 students and a nursing college which offers B.Sc (nursing) with an annual intake of 50 students and M.Sc (nursing) with intake of 10 students.
