RIMS celebrates 46th Foundation Day

Our Correspondent Imphal, Sep. 14 (EMN): The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), the premier medical institution in India’s North Eastern region located in Imphal celebrates its 46th Foundation day on Thursday. Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Kh Bhavananda Singh attended the foundation day celebration. Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh said attending patients in need with proper care and attention should be the driving force to mend the gap between people and those in the profession. He said, for a doctor bookish knowledge along with practical way of attending patients is important. Mentioning the commendable efforts made by RIMS in healthcare sector not only in the State but also in the NE region, he said, the institute has been emerging as one of the most beneficial healthcare institute in the region. On the other hand Rajya Sabha MP Bhabananda exuded confidence that State Government will approach to the Centre and will try to sort out whatever shortage in the institute and also to make it a best healthcare institute in the country. He also assured that he will urge the Union health minister for the improvement of the premier healthcare institute in the region. The newly appointed Director Prof Santa Singh of RIMS highlighted number deficiencies of the institution which have produced 3249 doctors since its establishment till July this year, on its foundation day. Seventy five percent of doctors serving in Meghalaya hospitals are from RIMS,” says former Head Prof Santa of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences Shillong. “Similarly the neighbouring states such as Nagaland and Mizoram also must be having the same.” , Former head of paediatrics Dr E Nandini Devi also spoke on the occasion which was attended by Medical Superintendent Dr Ch Arunkumar of RIMS and others. Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister distributed Gold Medals, Citations and Certificates to the position holders of Post Graduate and MBBS professional examinations 2017.
