Rijiju flags off run in Imphal

Imphal, October 31: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju flagged a Unity Run 2016 for Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel and school children on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, in Imphal on Monday. To re-affirm the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand potential threats to its unity and security, the run was organized by 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters IG Assam Rifles (South) in the spirit of promoting national unity on the occasion of this year’s Ekta Diwas, which is being observed annually to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel- ‘The Iron Man of India’, who was instrumental in unifying the Indian states in the current geo political configuration. Large number of Assam Rifles and CAPF personnel and students took part in the run which started from the historical Kangla Fort. Former union sports minister Th Chaoba and IG Assam Rifles (South) also attended the day’s run flag off function. Meanwhile, the State also joined the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas observation at 1st Bn Manipur Rifle ground here. Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam attended the function as chief guest and president respectively. The function was also attended by ministers, MLAs, civil and police top ranking officials of the government.
