Dimapur, March 6: Amid speculations that there is rift within the party due to internal differences, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Wednesday issued a statement refuting the report of a standoff between its members and claimed that “all the 26 MLAs were intact and sailing together in unity.”
“Due to certain rumours on the standoff, a closed-door meeting was held today (March 6) at Kohima, where all the MLAs were present except some few MLAs who were out of the state for medical treatment and other engagements,” read a statement issued by the party’s Press Bureau.
The party said the meeting has cleared the doubts created in the minds of the people by “false rumours.”
“The NPF assert their fullest cooperation with one another and the legislature party leader and to the party (sic),” read the statement, adding that all the legislators from the party came together for a “gentlemanly talk to hammer out any differences on issues that are hindering the party and have given their assurance to stand together and uphold the integrity and principles of the NPF party.”
The party stated that it “will not allow any force to disturb the peaceful ambience in the NPF family.” It added that the legislators also discussed on “preparation for the upcoming state by-election to the Aolendeng constituency and the Lok Sabha election in the state as well as the outer Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh” during the meeting.
However, sources claimed that all is not well within the NPF party, saying that some of its dissenting legislators stayed away from the meeting held on Wednesday. The sources went on to say that around 18 or 19 NPF legislators out of the total 26 attended the meeting and they were herded to de Oriental Grand Hotel in Kohima.
