Richard Gere’s divorce from Carey Lowell could be an expensive one, as she is believed to want over $100 million in the settlement.
Gere and Lowell split last year and she filed for divorce from the actor back in June, and now the couple are trying to hash out a settlement deal. However, it is believed that she wants a substantial amount of his $250 million fortune.
An insider claims that the couple are not getting along and says that Lowell will argue she deserves the large sum of money because she gave up her career to raise the couple’s son Homer, who is now fourteen.
The source told the New York Post newspaper: “They are not getting along and they are very far apart on how much money she will get in their divorce.
“She can claim she gave up her career for him and for their son Homer, and that she deserves half of all his earnings since they got married in 2002.”
Gere and Lowell married back in 2002 and split after eleven years of marriage. This is the second marriage for Gere - who was wed to Cindy Crawford from 1991 to 1995 - and was the third for Lowell.
Despite the claims, the ‘Law & Order’ actress’ lawyer insists it is too early to discuss finances but admitted his client will be seeking her “fair share” from the ‘American Gigolo’ star.
The lawyer, Robert Cohen, said: “Nobody has asked for anything yet. But she certainly wants her fair share of the marital assets.”
Richard is said to be unhappy that Carey - who has been married twice previously and has a 24-year-old daughter, Hannah, with her second husband Griffin Dunne - has a new man but has been trying to keep the relationship secret because her mystery guy is also currently going through a messy, expensive divorce.
