Eastern Mirror: How would you like to introduce yourself?

Kanili Muru: Hi. I am Kanili Muru and I hail from Satakha town.

Eastern Mirror: What pushed you towards music?

Kanili Muru: My mom has always been my inspiration. Since I was a kid my mom would teach me songs and we would perform in the church. I believe I was raised in such environment that made me love singing and pushed me towards music.

Eastern Mirror: Was it daunting when you entered the music industry?

Kanili Muru: Yes, because no one can become everyone’s favourite. There are people who are happy for us and who support us genuinely but also there are more who are the opposite. Sometimes people disapprove of us too.

Eastern Mirror: What is your debut song “Shoqhi hi Kumsuma mo” featuring Kivika Achumi about? What inspired you to write it?

Kanili Muru: “Shoqhi hi kumsuma mo” is particularly a wedding song. A song promising to love and trust each other the same till old age and live as believers. A song invoking God’s blessings for a life time.

I wrote this song for my sister’s wedding wishing she would live a happy and successful married life, this is what inspired me to write my debut song.

Eastern Mirror:  Your debut song received a lot of positive reviews from listeners. How do you feel about it?

Kanili Muru: First and foremost, I thank God and my family and Kivika Achumi for the guidance and help in making it possible. I feel so grateful and thankful to all the listeners for the warm reviews. Anticipating your endless support.

Eastern Mirror: What influenced you to make your debut song in your vernacular language?

Kanili Muru: Being a Sumi, my first priority whenever and wherever has always been and will always be Sumi. That is the reason I wrote my debut song in my vernacular language.

Eastern Mirror: Do you plan on making music in other dialects/languages as well?

Kanili Muru: Yes, I would love to.

Eastern Mirror: Apart from singing, what are your other interests?

Kanili Muru: Apart from singing I love cooking, travelling and exploring new places.

Eastern Mirror: Where do you find inspiration while composing and writing music?

Kanili Muru: There are some ideas I get through reading, observing and some inspiration from life events too.

Eastern Mirror: What do you like most about music?

Kanili Muru: Music is beautiful. The most beautiful thing about music is it speaks for the unspoken. Music calms us and brings peace of mind and heals us emotionally as well as spiritually too. Music is also one huge source of happiness and that makes me love music more.

Eastern Mirror: Any upcoming projects?

Kanili Muru: I am afraid no. But I would be more than happy to keep growing more with everyone’s support.
