IMPHAL, DECEMBER 4

THE All Political Party ILP Committee (APPILPC) today reviewed a draft report which is likely to reveal the Manipur Government on the practicability of implementation of either the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 or a similar law in the state.
The committee is likely to submit the draft report to the state Government on December 10.
Sources informed that the review meeting on APPILPC draft report was held at Deputy Chief Minister’s chamber, who is the chairman of the committee.
The draft report has been prepared by the committee after seeking suggestions and opinions of legal experts, MPs, academicians from Manipur University and several colleges, senior politicians and the Labour Department.
A proposal has been put in the draft report for setting up of a nodal directorate under the Home Department to supervise and assist in the efforts to implement ILP system or a similar law in the state, the sources added.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh had recently appeased the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) after he promised the committee that his Government would look for a suitable law to protect the indigenous people in the upcoming winter session of the state assembly.
