Dimapur, May 1 (EMN): There is no transportation services from the state transport authority, the Nagaland State Transport (NST), for Kiphire district even as there are concerns about students who are to be travelling outside the district for further studies.
A civic group called the Citizens’ Welfare Society of Kiphire issued a press release on Wednesday stating its concerns.
The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) will be announcing the high school and higher secondary school board examination results for 2019, the press release stated.
The Citizens’ Welfare Society of Kiphire on Wednesday visited the NST in Kiphire “to make sure that no students planning to go outside Kiphire for further studies were delayed due to transportation problem.”
‘And as expected, it was a big surprise to learned that the only service available to reach the state capital (Kohima town) which is 352 km away, has no Nagaland State Transport service since a month back citing some technical issues,’ the press release stated.
‘The only hope for the citizens, specially the economically weaker sections of the people to reach Kohima for education, medical treatment, and other official work are facing untold hardship for transportation.’
Further, the organisation expressed surprise too that the NST service between Tuensang and Kohima has been “completely off” since a few years ago.
‘When the citizens expect more development and improvement for the welfare of the Public and backward areas, it is becoming from bad to worse,’ the press release stated.
The Citizens Welfare Society has appealed to the government and the department in concern to look into the grievance and urgently within this week.
“As after the declaration of the result, many students will be going outside Kiphire for further studies. Failing to meet the genuine needs of the public may compel the citizens to come out in the street for the rights of its citizens,” the statement added.
