Restaurant owner’s wife succumbs after gun attack

NNN IMPHAL, March 16 Wife of a restaurant owner critically wounded in a gun attack carried out by militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) on February 19 succumbed on Wednesday. KCP Poirei group claimed its hand in the Ningthibi Restaurant firing incident. Two visitors including a teenage girl also sustained minor injuries in the attack that took place inside the restaurant at Khurai Angom Leikai Laiching Chingkhong under Imphal East. The outfit had said it was cleaning immoral activities inside the restaurant and that it had launched the attack for the purpose. Laishram Ongbi Romita Devi, 41, wife of L Senapati Singh of Khurai Angom Leikai, succumbed at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal at 3:30 am. Initially, she had been treating at Raj Medicity Hospital, North AOC here since the incident. There, she had undergone a major surgery and later discharged on March 9. Two bullets hit Romita in the abdomen in the attack. She was taken to RIMS following her condition suddenly deteriorated yesterday. Her family claimed her body after post mortem at the hospital mortuary.
