Dimapur, June 26 (EMN): District AIDS prevention & control unit (DAPCU) and Project Ahana have jointly organised one-day training for district resource team on HIV and syphilis testing on June 26 in the CMO’s conference hall, Dimapur.
The objective of the training was to build the capacity of the ANM and block program manager to conduct WBFPT of HIV and POC syphilis screening for scaling up coverage of HIV and syphilis screening at the primary health centre (PHC) and sub-centre (SC) level.
Sevi, project officer Ahana, has oriented the trainees on project Ahana. She stated that the project aims at creating cadres of trained personnel in the public health system which would eventually saturate HIV & syphilis screening health facilities down to the village level.
Mecievinuo, Dimapur DPO of DAPCU and resource person, oriented the trainees on the basic of HIV/AIDS. She also highlighted on the significance of pre and post test counselling. She further stressed on the importance of maintaining confidentiality of the patients.
Yanger Aier, M&E assistant, DAPCU, has trained the participants on the procedure of reporting and briefed them on the report format. Demonstration of HIV and syphilis screening was also conducted.
Dr. K Vikato Kinimi, chief medical officer, Dimapur, has highlighted the importance of HIV testing at the earliest and considered the ANMs to be the backbone of the activity at the periphery level. He also encouraged the ANMs to work as active health service providers even towards HIV and syphilis screening. He further requested the ANMs to stress on counselling of adherence to art and safe sex to prevent HIV/AIDS.
The participants of the training included ANMs of all health units under CMO, Dimapur, and all the block programme managers.
