Residents protest kidnap for ransom

IMPHAL, January 16

Locals of Uripok Ahanthem Leikai and Malom Tuliyaima in Impahl West district on Thursday demanded safe release of the four persons reportedly kidnapped by Kuki National Front (KNF) militant outfit for a ransom of Rs 1 crore at Singda under Sapermeina Police Station in Senapati district on January 11.Dozer operator L Bijesh (25), a resident of Wangoo Nongdangkhong; his assistant driver Sharangthem Anand (25), a resident of Thoubal Khetri Leikai; along with Uripok Ahanthem Leikai resident Angom Paten (56), a mohori from the Public Works Department (PWD); and Sharangthem Ingo (50), another mohori working for a private contractor, were reportedly kidnapped by KNF militants from a road construction site in Singda where they were being engaged.
Sit-in protests were simultaneously held against the kidnapping at Uripok Ahanthem Leikai and Malom Awang Leikai wherein a large number of local residents were present. The demonstrators demanded the KNF to set free them safe and sound.
Sources informed that the four are now being kept in the custody of KNF in connection with Rs 1 crore of ransom money.
