Kohima, Aug. 30 (EMN):
The New Market area in Kohima organised a candlelight service on Sunday evening (August 30), to welcome its residents who had recovered from Covid-19.

With hundreds of candles lighted across the streets in the area, the colony members led by the panchayat leaders held a short service to welcome the residents.

The programme was held using a public address (PA) system, even as the residents of New Market and neighbouring colonies lighted candles and joined the service.

The New Market youth organisation also handed over ‘welcome gifts’ to the recovered patients. It was also informed that 770 candles were sponsored by two families from the colony.

Speaking to journalists, the chairman of New Market area panchayat, Ruokuobizo Nyusou shared that “on their return we feel so happy, and this happiness without thanking the Supreme One is incomplete”. Therefore, it is a “joy service plus thanksgiving service,” he added.

He also stated that New Market is one of the ‘poorest colonies’ with around 500 households, and therefore cannot conduct any grand programmes, “but as some of our families tested positive and returned (after recovery), we initiated the programme as a sign of our happiness”.

He further said that not only the recovered persons but all the residents of the colony also share their happiness with them.

Nyusou shared that they are also trying to help some residents who are currently in home isolation in the colony by delivering goods when they need or require.

It was informed that out of the 11 persons who had tested positive, 10 had recovered and released, with a 4-year-old being the youngest among the recovered patients.

The one remaining patient is likely to be released from the Covid-19 hospital on Monday, August 31, it was informed.
