Dimapur, Feb. 2 (EMN): The 40th general conference of the Rengma Students’ Union was conducted from January 22 to the 24th in Phenshünyu hosted by the Phenshünyu Lowjvü Students’ Union. The theme of the event was ‘skill, self-reliance and sustainability,’ a press release that was received here informed.
The second day of the event had a programme to dedicate a monolith to commemorate the event. The dedicatory prayer was pronounced by Rev. Isac Kesen, pastor of Phenshünyu Baptist Church, the updates stated.
In the inaugural program, the minister for Higher and Technical Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, was the special guest. In his address, he reminded the students about “who we are and how we should be,” the updates sated. He spoke about “the realities that are happening in our Naga society and that we should not be influenced or carried away by other foreign culture.”
R Khing, the advisor for Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services & Women Resources Development, was the guest of honour. He challenged the students to be “more hardworking and sincere in their studies,” the updates stated.
He stated that students should be committed and be humble before God ‘so that they can achieve their goals and then success will be theirs.’ Students should show good examples and that their society should be proud of them, he said.
On the third day of the event, a folk song competition was conducted during the cultural program, the updates stated.
G Lithrongla, the additional deputy commissioner of Kohima, attended the valedictory program. The official spoke about the importance of the mother tongue, the updates informed.
As part of the programme, a session called “RSU Special Night” was conducted too during which Rengma artistes and bands performed in front of a packed crowd, the press release stated.
A new team of executives for the Rengma Students’ Union for the tenure 2020-21 was also elected. The team is led by Heiko Kent as president and Kegwalo Magh as general secretary, it was informed.
