DIMAPUR — The Rengma Officers’ Forum (ROF) has expressed its displeasure at the recent incident at Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema, wherein the pro-vice chancellor (PVC) of Nagaland University (NU), G T Thong, who is also a senior member of ROF, was harassed.

The forum stated in a press release that it is deeply hurt by the treatment meted out to its respected member by some individuals, reportedly some contractors, and some group of locals over an issue involving the university’s non-release of bills.

Condemning the act of ‘harassment and intimidation inflicted on a professional of such high esteem and repute’, the ROF stated that such incivility and lack of respect are uncalled for in dealing with administrative matters and have no place in society, especially on the campus of the university.

“The incident has reportedly not only affected the officer’s discharge of his duties but has also put the activities of the university at a halt,” it said.

The forum further stated that interfering with an official in the discharge of his official duties and acts of threatening and intimidation are not only unnecessary but also disgraceful, worth condemning by all right-thinking individuals and organisations, and appealed to the authorities concerned to take the matter into serious cognizance and take necessary and appropriate action against the miscreants.

It also emphasised that such intolerable behaviour and avoidable incidents be dealt with appropriately and that such elements not be allowed to thrive in the best interests of society, particularly in the peaceful learning environment of the university.
