DIMAPUR — The Rengma Mothers’ Association Dimapur (RMAD) marked its 25th anniversary on the theme “We care” at Lorin Hall, Tetso College, Sovima, on Saturday.

During the programme, Khontele Seb, president of the Dimapur Baptist Women Union, encouraged the community to serve one another with love instead of seeking selfish gains.

The speaker noted that many individuals hesitate to serve unless they stand to gain something in return. She urged people to avoid the mentality of uplifting oneself at the expense of others, emphasising that such an attitude could lead to the downfall of both parties involved.

Recognising the pioneers of the association, she acknowledged their significant contributions to the Rengma community in particular and to the Nagas as a whole.

She also appreciated the association for fighting for the rights of women, which women today are enjoying the fruits of. Further, she urged everyone to recommit to what has been done for the community by the leaders in the past 25 years.

She reminded them that society will reap what it sows today, urging everyone to examine and do whatever good they can so that the future will enjoy the benefits.

Bensinle Tep, president of RMAD, in her presidential address, recalled how the association was formed on August 12, 1999, following a tragic incident in which a mother died during childbirth due to medical negligence. This incident led to the establishment of the association to seek justice.

She stated that RMAD is committed to seeking justice for atrocities against women and safeguarding their rights and that the association is also dedicated to promoting goodwill, pursuing justice, protecting against crimes, and preserving the traditional and cultural identity of the Rengma community.

Further, she urged the members of the association to continue uplifting one another in times of need to create an environment where every individual feels supported, fostering a community rooted in compassion and solidarity.

During the programme, messages were also delivered by Margareth Tep, president of the Rengma Mothers’ Association Apex Body, Tseminyu; Duoneinuo Kire, president of the Naga Women Hoho, Dimapur; Neivi Khusoh, president of the Tenyimi Women’s Union, Dimapur; and Alo Kent, president of the Rengma Public Organisation, Dimapur.

Short speeches were also delivered by Sherhinle Lorin, the first president of RMAD, and GK Rengma, former president of the Rengma Hoho, Dimapur.

The jubilee souvenir of RMAD was released by Tesinlo Semy, and the jubilee choir from Rengma Baptist Church, Padumpukhuri, performed the jubilee song.
