Dimapur, June 18 (EMN): Affirming that delimitation exercise, which intends to rationalise parliamentary and state assembly seats, is a timely exercise as per the constitution of India, Rengma Hoho has appealed to the Delimitation Commission of India to do the needful in conducting the delimitation in the state of Nagaland by upholding the constitution.

In a representation to the Delimitation Commission of India, the Rengma Hoho pointed out that any attempt to derail the delimitation issue in the state of Nagaland would be devoid of constitutional provision and tantamount to injustice of equality in re-adjustment of assembly seats in the state of Nagaland.

The hoho representation appended by its president Kenyuseng Tep mentioned that some districts in the state have been enjoying numerous seats under the manipulated 1972 delimitation depriving some communities of which Rengma tribe has been one of them.

“Any talk of the 2001 census being flawed as the reason to pressure the Government of India not to implement the present delimitation exercise in the state is discriminatory and dishonest. The issue before the people is dispensation of equality and justice,” the representation stated. It added that bowing down before irrational pressure and argument would be a defeat of Indian democracy.

In the light of the above stated circumstances, Rengma Hoho has apprised the Commission and the Indian government to do the needful in conducting the delimitation in the state of Nagaland by upholding the constitution.
