DIMAPUR — Striking a tone of resolve and renewal on Nagaland’s 62nd Statehood Day, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Sunday urged citizens to “move ahead with renewed purpose” and reaffirm their commitment to unity, peace and inclusive development as the state stands at what he described as a “significant juncture” in its journey.
In a message issued on the eve of Statehood Day, Bhalla said that the occasion was not only a celebration of Nagaland’s accession as the 16th state of the Indian Union in 1963 but also a reminder of the “resilience, courage and unwavering aspirations” that have shaped Naga identity and governance over six decades.
Paying tribute to the pioneers and elders whose vision laid the foundation of the state, he said that their sacrifices “continue to inspire us as we work collectively toward a brighter and more harmonious tomorrow.”
Highlighting progress in governance, infrastructure, education, healthcare and cultural preservation, the governor lauded the achievements of Naga youth across academics, sports, entrepreneurship and the creative arts.
He also acknowledged the contributions of farmers, artisans, and community leaders who uphold the values of hard work, harmony, and social responsibility, which strengthen Naga society.

Describing Nagaland’s diversity of tribes, languages and traditions as its “enduring wealth,” Bhalla stressed that harmony and mutual respect remain the state’s greatest strength.
Festivals, customary practices and deep respect for elders, he said, form the cultural fabric that continues to define the Naga way of life.
Calling on citizens to recommit to peace and development, he asserted that the government remains focused on inclusive growth, improved connectivity, transparent governance and expanding opportunities for people “whether in remote villages or expanding urban centres.”
“With sustained peace, cooperation and dialogue, we can realise our collective aspirations for lasting progress,” he said, urging the people to embrace innovation while safeguarding cultural identity.
As Nagaland looks to the future, he added, it is the shared responsibility of every citizen to nurture peace, promote sustainable development, empower the younger generation and preserve the state’s unique traditions.
“Together, let us build an inclusive, just, and prosperous state for generations to come. On this Statehood Day, let us reaffirm our pledge to work in unity for a peaceful, progressive, and vibrant Nagaland.
“May the spirit of harmony guide our efforts, and may our state continue to shine as a beacon of strength, culture, and opportunity,” he appealed.
