Reigning champ Venuzo Dawhuo takes King of the Ring Series title again

Kohima, Oct. 23 (EMN): Reigning champion Venuzo Dawhuo defended his title after defeating reigning Nagaland wrestling champion Menuosetuo Yiese in the final bout to be crowned the King of the Ring Series champion for the second consecutive year in the 7th edition of the Naga Wrestle Mania at the Kohima local ground on Tuesday.

The championship is part of the Combat Sports Festival organised by 3E (Elite Entertainment Enterprise) Nagaland in Kohima.

Standing at 5 feet 10 inches and weighting 92 kg, the 21 year old Dawhuo who hails from Thenyizu village under Phek district proved too strong as he won both the bout to overcome a 118 kg wrestler Menuosetuo Yiese, a 20-year old from Kohima village in the final.

Venuzo Dawhuo on his way to the final defeated the reigning heavyweight champion Dzieselatuo Keretsü in the semi-final and reigning ASA champion Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü in the quarter-final round.

The champion Venuzo walked home with a cash prize of INR 1,20,000 along with citation and runners-up Menuosetuo received INR 60,000. Dzieselatuo Keretsü took the third place and Kezhavizo Thevo in fourth place. The third place received INR. 30000 and fourth place with INR. 15000.

Debutant Rahul Rai proved his worth in his debut by winning the second bout against Serayi in the first round of the King of the Ring Series. Menuosetuo Yeise defeated his elder brother Seyiekhrietuo Yiese in the pre-quaterfinal round.

It may be mentioned that the preliminary rounds was played separately in categories for lightweight (74 Kg, & below) and heavyweight (above 74 Kg) and after reaching the last 16, they were grouped together to vie for the ‘King of the Ring’ championship.

A total of 49 wrestlers including 32 light weight category and 17 heavy weight category took part in the wrestling competition.

Earlier, MLA Keneizhakho Nakhro attended the opening ceremony as the special guest.
