Noklak, Aug. 6 (EMN):
The deputy commissioner of Noklak, Hiazu Meru, on Friday urged the citizens to refrain from electoral malpractice and pursue a value system that will give long-term benefit to the society.

The DC was speaking during the “Clean Election Movement” programme of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) hosted by Khiamniungan Baptist Churches’ Association (KBCA).

The campaign was held on the theme “My Vote, My Future” at Komking in Noklak.

Describing the Church as an institution with moral authority and expressing gratitude to the association (NBCC), Meru appealed to everyone involved in the movement to practically and actively take up the campaign and “clean our electoral roll”.

In his keynote address, Finance and Property Secretary of KBCA, Samuel informed that immoral activities of the public while participating in elections triggered the initiation of “Clean Election Movement”.

“The spirit of self realisation and self awareness was implanted by this movement,” he stated.

President of Khiamniungan Students’ Union, Shangchiu and President of Khiamniungan Tribal Council, M Thangou also spoke at the event, while Rev. Hempao, Executive Secretary of KBCA, undertook the ‘Act of Recommitment’.

The “Clean Election Movement” was launched by NBCC in 2003 with an aim to create awareness among the people of the state about the need to conduct clean and fair elections.

As part of the movement, there are sixteen members in the Clean Election Committee under KBCA with Youth Secretary of KBCA, Sanghom as the convenor.
