Reddy assures Centre support in tackling insurgency, modernisation of police force in Manipur

Dimapur, Oct. 22 (EMN): Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy assured full support of the Centre to Manipur in tackling insurgency, modernisation of state police force, provisioning of various items and deployment of Central armed police forces, whenever required.

Reddy, on the last day of his visit to Northeast, visited South HQs of Assam Rifles at Mantripukhri in Imphal on Tuesday, where he reviewed security preparedness and facilities available for the personnel, an update by PIB said.

While interacting with troops and senior officers,  Reddy commended the role of Assam Rifles in controlling insurgent groups, their achievements, success in the field of sports and adventure and the role played by the force towards ensuring peace and harmony in the north-eastern region.

“The personnel of Assam Rifles are regarded as the friends of the people of the Northeast due to their valour, commitment and self-less service” said Reddy.

He saluted those valiant soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation and assured them that welfare of soldiers and their families will always remain close to his heart.

The Union minister co-chaired a security review meeting with Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh , at CM’s Secretariat in Imphal.

The meeting was attended by senior officers of Central armed police forces and the state including chief secretary and DGP of Manipur.

It was observed that the security situation in the state has improved considerably 2018 onwards as it witnessed decline in insurgency related incidents by 24%.
