Re-polling at Kiphire ends ‘peacefully’, registers over 70% voter turnout

Kohima, Nov. 7 (EMN): Re-poll at two polling stations under 60-Pungro-Kiphire assembly constituency went ‘smoothly and peacefully’ on Saturday with voter turnout of 74.71% at polling station 8-Kipongya Ward ‘A’ Kiphire town and 69.48 % at polling station 11-Singrep.
At Kipongya Ward ‘A’ Kiphire town PS 8, total male polling percentage was 76% and 73.34% for female. Meanwhile at Singrep polling station-11, total male voter turnout was 70.30% and female was 68.68%.
Nagaland’s Chief Electoral Officer Abhijit Sinha said that the polling went off ‘very smoothly and peacefully’. There was no untoward incident reported at both the polling stations.
Mock poll was conducted in the morning and the actual polling started at 6 am and lasted till 4 pm, he said. Adequate arrangements were made at both the polling stations to ensure that polling takes place in free, fair and peaceful manner and sufficient security personnel were deployed, Sinha added.
The Election Commission of India had ordered fresh polling at the two polling stations under 60-Pungro-Kiphire A/C after taking into account the reports of scrutiny, observers, and other sources.
The officer informed that the counting of all the polling stations at both assembly constituencies including the two re-polling stations will be done on November 10. Counting will start at 8 am on Tuesday.
All arrangements for counting of votes have been made. In Kohima, there will be one counting hall. In Kiphire, polling stations have been divided into two counting halls and counting will be done simultaneously at the two venues, he added.
