Nagaland election 2023: Re-poll in four polling stations peaceful
he re-polling in four polling stations spreading across four assembly constituencies went peacefully without any untoward incidents on Wednesday, recording more than 72.29% voter turnout, said Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, V Shashank Shekhar.
The Election Commission had on Tuesday announced re-polling in four polling stations namely, 9-New Colony S/W (528 voters) under 35 Zunheboto AC; 9-Pangti V (770 voters) under 39 Sanis AC; 7-Jaboka village (817 voters) under 41 Tizit AC; and 3-Pathso East Wing (1133 voters) under 57 Thonoknyu AC following reports of irregularities during the voting on February 27.
The break-up of voter turnout in the re-poll is: 54.16% at 9-New Colony S/W, 67.66% at 9-Pangti V, 97.55% at 7-Jaboka village, and 69. 81% at 3-Pathso East Wing polling station.
The state’s overall voter turnout, which stood at 85.90% on Monday, will be adjusted after including the percentage of four polling stations, Shekhar said.
Proxy voting, breach of standard protocol
General observers in the field had given their reports to the Election Commission, following which re-poll notice was issued for four polling stations in four districts after taking into accounts all the material circumstances, including videographic evidences.
The CEO said that there was clear evidence of proxy voting in certain polling stations under Zunheboto and Noklak districts on the polling day, while the presiding officer and polling officials in Mon and Wokha districts were found breaching the standard protocol in handling of EVMs.
