DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 29 : The department of Rural Development, in a major culling exercise, has terminated the services of 78 employees who were working under the flagship programme of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
The termination order, signed by the Commissioner of MGNREGA Kelei Zeliang, was made available to Eastern Mirror on Thursday. Though the copy of the order was signed on September 14 last, it, however, stated that the termination of the 78 employees was “with effect” from September 1.
According to the order, those employees terminated were “workers of APC, APO/BA/Pos, CA/TA, peons and driver under MGNREGA programme.” The order also had the employees classified as “honorarium engagement workers”.
They have been terminated from service “on the grounds of absentees, double job and non-performing MGNREGA workers in the district and blocks”.
Calls made for further information to the Commissioner of MGNREGA, Kelei Zeliang, who is also the Secretary of Rural Development, were rejected. Messages sent to the official were also not replied to.
