DIMAPUR — The Razeba Public Organisation, in collaboration with the chairmen of three villages and one town, organised a mass social work event on Monday.
All the male residents of the area participated in the social work, during which they cut the roadside grass and filled the potholes along the 16-kilometre stretch of road from Pfutsero to Chilo, according to a press release.
Altogether, more than 700 people and well-wishers participated in the social work.
It was maintained that the condition of the Pfutsero-Chilo road, which is the lifeline for the people of the Razeba range and neighbouring villages in Manipur, is in a pathetic state due to being left unattended for many years.
The Razeba area comprises three villages: Zhavame (Vegetable Village), Tsupfume (Vegetable and Ground Apple Village), and Zelome (Ground Apple Village), as well as Razeba (EAC headquarters).
“Hundreds of tons of vegetables and fruits are supplied from this area to various parts of the state and nation throughout the year. Monsoon is the peak season for the supply and due to the poor road condition, many of these products cannot be marketed or are compelled to sell at a very cheap rate,” it said, adding that the situation compels the public of the area to take the matter in their own hands and initiate road repair from time to time.

It further stated that this is not the first time the public has initiated repair work. In 2021, for instance, youngsters from the area undertook a major road repair project through crowdfunding on the theme ‘My road my future’.
This project took two months to complete, involving the participation of local residents and well-wishers in repairing 13 kilometres of road.
“The people of Razeba are eagerly waiting for the government of Nagaland to provide a good road so that the surplus produced of vegetables and fruits can be exported and boast the local economy,” it concluded.
