Dimapur, July 2 (EMN): Asserting that there is certain ambiguity that needs clarity in the governor’s recent letter to the chief minister, the Naga Hoho has maintained that as long as the Indo-Naga political issue remains unresolved, “all forms of unrest starting from taxation to killings are bound to live with us”.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the organisation said that the law and order situation has drastically improved during the last two decades.

“The governor is the same person who signed the historic framework agreement with NSCN/GPRN in front of prime minister of India and another preamble agreement with 7 NNPGs. We are fully convinced that the governor and interlocutor have done this with comprehensive analysis that Naga problem is not at all a mere law and order problem and this has been well recognised by various prime ministers of India.

“Government of India and the interlocutor must bring the 23 years of political dialogue to a logical conclusion as committed in different platforms and occasions by the government of the day in New Delhi. In a nutshell, Nagas struggle for self determination cannot be considered by the governor and interlocutor as law and order problem and the government of India must address the aspirations of the Nagas at the earliest,” read the statement.

It stated that the governor’s “contention to curb corruption”, as the constitutional head of the state, was laudable.

Further, the Naga Hoho condemned the government of India for extending the Disturbed Area Act in Nagaland on condition and promulgation of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 for another six months.

“It is unfortunate that the government of India fails to take into account the ground reality but rather choose to dehumanise the Naga people by using the most inhuman Act,” it stated.

Maintaining that the “inhuman law has lost its relevance in a civilised society,” the Naga Hoho demanded that law be repealed.
