The ratio of government colleges in the hill districts of the state to the total colleges is 25 percent. Besides the ratio of men in position of the government colleges in five hill districts-Chandel, Churachandpur, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul, to the total government colleges is just 17 percent cente. One of the main factors for lower ratio is because of absence of science and commerce streams in most of the colleges.Three Colleges in hills-Hill College, Tadubi(Senapati), Tamenglong College, Tamenglong and Lamka College in Churachandpur out of 7 colleges in the hill districts, have onlt arts stream, according to a supplementary note provided by state Education minister M Okendro during the ongoing assembly session on Friday.The other government colleges in hills are United College, Chandel, Presidency College, Motbung (Senapati district), Churachandpur College, Churachandpur and Pettigrew College in Ukhrul district.
Minister Okendro while replying to a question by Ukhrul MLA Samuel Risom, also informed that there are a total of 318 college lecturers (both regular and part timers) in the seven government colleges in five hill districts out of state’s 28 government colleges. Okendro also informed the house that there are 11 vacant posts of lecturers in Pettigrew College at present.The department have been coordinating with Manipur Public Service Commission for recruitment of 218 lecturers for the specific government colleges in the state.
Among the seven hill colleges, United College Chandel(68) has the maximum number of lecturers(including part timers), followed by Churachandpur College (67), Presidency College(66), Pettigrew(38), Tamenglong college(33) Lamka College(30), Hill College (16).But the actual sanction posts of United College, Churachandpur ,Lamka ,Presidency, Tamenglong, Pettigrew and Hill are 60, 56, 27, 47, 30, 23 and 11 respectively. With 139 lecturers, the Imphal based DM College of Science has largest number of lecturers (including part timers) in Manipurb while LMS Law College in Imphal has just 5 lecturers (including part timers).
