Rash and drunken driving kills three in Kohima

At least three persons have been killed while two critically injured in separate accidents that occurred last night in Kohima.
In a tragic accident, a sleeping mother and her daughter died while two members of the same family sustained serious injuries when a Maruti Van plunged into their residence (CGI roofed house) situated below the road at Kezieke Colony at around 2:30 am.
Police said the accident the Maruti van (NL 01H 5922) skidded off the road and plunged below into the house killing 5 year old Keneinuo and her mother Alenuo. The father Henilo Kath and 4 year old son Ruokuokhrielie sustained serious injuries and are battling for life at the hospital.
Other two minor members of the family had a miraculous escape as they were sleeping on a separate bed only a few distance from their parents and sister’s bed.
Police have taken the driver identified as Kamrul Islam, who is also the owner of the vehicle into custody. Police said the driver was in an inebriated state at the time of the accident.
Police have registered a case in this connection.
Meanwhile, Kezieke Youth Organisation Teisongulie Dzűvuchű has asked the authority to take stern action against the owner and driver of the vehicle. Stating that this is the seventh case of vehicle ramming into houses in the colony, the Organisation asked the authority to erect railings on road sides to avert such accidents.
In another incident the Thinsal Tase, who was seriously injured last night in head on collision with a truck at Jahama succumbed to his injuries this morning at around 10:00 am. Sources said that at around 7:00 pm last night, the truck (AS01-B-8755) coming towards Kohima and a Martuti car (AS01-K-6198) moving upwards had head on collision near Jakhama army gate critically injuring the driver of the car Tase. He was rushed to Naga Hospital and admitted in the ICU, but he succumbed to his injuries this morning.
The driver of the truck is absconding, police said while the case has been registered.
