DIMAPUR — On the opening day of India’s premier domestic tournament, the Ranji trophy, Hyderabad declared their innings after scoring 474/5 in 76.4 overs.

Nagaland won the toss and opted to bowl first at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima. The decision proved costly as Hyderabad batsman Rahul Singh Gahlaut became the first batsman to hit a double century in this season of the Ranji Trophy, scoring 214 off just 157 balls.

Teammate Tanmay Agarwal made 80 runs while Tilak Varma (Captain) also contributed a significant 100 runs and remained unbeaten at the crease.

Nagaland bowlers, Karan Tewatiya, Nagaho Chishi, Imliwati Lemtur, Khrievitso Kense and Jonathan Rongsen claimed one wicket each.

Following Hyderabad’s declaration of their innings, Nagaland commenced their chase, led by Joshua Ben Ozukum, who stood at an unbeaten score of 26 runs, and Sedezhalie Rupreo, who was not out at 7 runs. Unfortunately, they had already lost the wicket of Nzanthung Y Mozhui, accumulating a total of 35 runs in 11 overs at stumps.

With Nagaland trailing by 439 runs, the upcoming second day promises increased excitement as the former Ranji Trophy champions, the Hyderabad team, will try to exploit the morning field conditions. Meanwhile, Nagaland’s batting lineup will face a stern test of resilience against the experienced Hyderabad bowling attack.
