Ranji Trophy: Nagaland eye final after crucial win over Sikkim

J&K dominate Nagaland in Col. CK Nayudu Trophy

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland cricket team on Saturday registered a victory over Sikkim by an inning and 39 runs, strengthening its hold on second place in the Plate Group standings.

An update from the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) stated that this win not only adds a crucial 20 points to their tally but also positions them as strong contenders to qualify for the finals, with one crucial match remaining against Mizoram before a potential clash with Goa in the finals.

Nagaland’s latest victory showcased their all-round dominance. In the first inning, Nagaland posted a total of 347 all out in 123 overs. Key performers included Nischal Dega, who scored 116 off 186 balls, and Hem Chetri, who contributed 67 from 166 balls. Sikkim’s Lee Yong Lepcha was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 68 runs.

Sikkim’s response in their first inning saw them all out for 192 in 106 overs. Ashish Thapa was the top scorer, making 57 off 158 balls. Nagaland’s Dip Borah played a key role in dismantling Sikkim’s batting, taking a brilliant 5 wickets for 31 runs.

In the second inning, Sikkim was bowled out for just 116 runs in 48.3 overs. Ankur Malik was the top scorer for Sikkim, contributing 47 off 79 balls. Jagadeesha Suchith was exceptional with the ball, ripping through the Sikkim batting lineup with a fiery spell of 6 wickets for 36 runs.

Nagaland will face Mizoram from November 13 to 16 at the Gokulbhai Somabhai Patel Stadium in Nadiad.

Jammu and Kashmir dominate Nagaland

Meanwhile, Nagaland trails Jammu and Kashmir by 328 runs at stumps on Day 2 of the Col. CK Nayudu Trophy on Saturday at Jammu University Ground, Jammu.

Jammu and Kashmir declared their first inning at a mammoth 557/5 in 109 overs. Arnav Gupta was the standout performer, scoring 168 off 169 balls, while Yawer Hassan remained unbeaten on 159* off 226 balls. Sujal Prasad was the best bowler for Nagaland, taking 1/60.

In response, Nagaland was bowled out for 159 in 31.5 overs in their first inning. Sujal Prasad top-scored with 33 off 27 balls. Mujtaba Yousuf was the standout bowler for Jammu and Kashmir, claiming 5/53.

At the close of Day 2, Nagaland were 70/3 in their second inning after 19 overs. Vishal Sahani was the top scorer with 27 off 21 balls. Janib Javaid was the best bowler for Jammu and Kashmir, taking 1/9.
