Ranji Trophy: Nagaland all-out for 179 runs in first innings

Eastern Mirror Desk Dimapur, Nov. 12: The second Ranji Trophy match hosted by Nagaland got underway on Mon. Nov. 12 at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Dimapur. Sikkim won the toss and opted to field first. The first inning for Nagaland lasted for 53 overs with just 179 runs. The team lost wickets on regular intervals and were 7 down for 74 runs at one point. A late 8th wicket partnership between Captain Jonathan Rongsen (86) and young all rounder Tahmeed Rahman (33) took Nagaland to 141 before Tahmeed got out. Nagaland Captain R Jonathan was the top scorer with 86 runs off 112 balls, followed by Tahmeed with 33 off 63 balls. Three batsmen were dismissed for duck. Sikkim’s Ishwar Chaudhary was the wrecker-in-chief with a top-notch figure of 16 - 2 - 65 - 4 followed by BB Sharma with 3 wickets, Milind with 2, and Lee Yong Lepcha with 1. At the end of first day’s play, Sikkim had scored 120 runs in 35 overs losing five wickets. Milind remained unbeaten on 78 runs. Pawan Suyal of Nagaland took all the five wickets.
