Rally-cum-walkathon marks International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Dimapur
Drug abuse and substance abuse is on an increasing trend in our state
DIMAPUR— The society should help people come out of the web of substance abuse and push them to the mainstream by lending their support, as there lots of stigma attached to drug users, said Sachin Jaiswal, Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur.
He was speaking before the rally-cum-walkathon took off from ADC court junction to Clock Tower in Dimapur on the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Monday.
School and college-going students, army and police personnel, and others participated in the rally-cum-walkathon organised by the office of the deputy commissioner, Dimapur.
While maintaining that there are many NGOs that are helping drug users and the government is also initiating various programme, he said “we have to mainstream them into the society and that is also our core responsibility.”
He said the occasion is significant for Dimapur and Nagaland because “we have been observing and getting reports that drug abuse and substance abuse is on an increasing trend in our state”.
Stating that the seizure of huge amount of drugs during the last election was an eye opener, he urged all the stakeholders, specifically the youngsters and youths to spread awareness about its ill-effects.
He expressed hope that, through the programme, the message of drug abuse and illegal trafficking will reach every household in the state and eradicate the crisis all together in the future.
