Rallies held to mark Independence Day

Dimapur, Aug. 13 (EMN): Commemorating the 75th years of Indian Independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav), a rally was organised from Airport junction to the Agri Expo Site in Dimapur on August 13.

Speaking at the flag off ceremony, the SDO (C) of Dimapur, Hotolu Sema, reminded one and all to remember the freedom fighters who have sacrificed their lives for the country, a DIPR report stated.

“Let us uphold the spirit of patriotism and unity. And as we join with the rest of the country in celebrating the special occasion, let us be a beacon of light and hope for our country,” Hotolu said.

While lauding the participants for their enthusiasm, Hotolu also advised them to follow the basic SOPs for their safety and others during this period of the pandemic.

The rally was organised by the office of District Sports Officers (DSO), Dimapur, in collaboration with district administration and volunteers of National Service Scheme (NSS) and Nehru Yuva Kendra Dimapur.

In a related programme, Mon district administration, in collaboration with YRSO, NYK and NSS Mon, organised a rally on August 13. The rally was flagged off at Mon local ground by DSO Mon, Anguvito Sumi, and culminated at DC’s office in Mon.

The rally witnessed participants from various sports organisations of Mon town, NSS volunteers from Wangkhao Government College Mon, and NYK.

The Tuensang district administration, along with the Youth Resources and Sports department, also organised a bike rally on August 13.

A DIPR report stated that Frontier Royal Enfield En-block (Free) participated in the national flag bike rally starting from clock tower covering all the town. It added that the Youth Resources and Sports department also organised a basketball exhibition match at Loyem Memorial Ground to mark the celebration.

Besides, all wards, institutions and offices also conducted a mass cleanliness drive to mark the occasion.
