Raj Bhavan welcomes little feet as gov. hosts welfare children
Dimapur, Oct. 6 (EMN): Children from ‘child care’ homes in Peren, Phek and Wokha district had an eventful day at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Oct. 5 as they rubbed shoulders with the governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, and officers and staff of the establishment as guests of the governor.
Eleven children from Peren, 14 from Wokha and 42 from Phek attended the event, described in a PRO handout as an ‘outreach programme for children from child care institutions.’ The governor’s establishment issued a press release on Sunday informing about the event, which was stated to be an ‘outreach programme for children from child care institutions.’
The first day of the programme saw the children treating the gathering to a song. They played games on the lawns of the Raj Bhavan, the press release from the PRO stated. The governor presented to the children’s institutions carom boards, board games, and skipping ropes among other stationeries.
The governor is understood to have addressed the gathering of children there. ‘Acharya called on the children to have big dreams and ambitions and to take their studies seriously,’ the press release stated. ‘Stating that the summit to success is not reached in a single leap, but in a series of determined steps he encouraged the children to take their education seriously as it was one important tool towards the leap.’
Acharya also expressed gratitude to the caretakers and coordinators of the children’s homes for their service to the society. He hoped that they would continue their service for the welfare of the children.
Retired chief secretary of Nagaland Banuo Z Jamir also exhorted the gathering. She appreciated Acharya for ‘sharing the Raj Bhavan with the children,’ most of whom have not had even the opportunity to go out beyond their place of residence.
She hoped that the event would be an experience for each one of them to remember for a life time, and expand their thinking and hearts to achieve great things in life.
Jamir urged the children to make most of their visit to the Raj Bhavan. They were told that most children in the state will very rarely, if at all, get the opportunity to interact with the governor like this.
“She encouraged them to learn from him and be blessed. She also expressed her appreciation to all proprietors, coordinators and child care Institutions for the love and compassion in managing such institutions for deprived children,” the updates stated.
Chairperson of the programme Kikasangla Aier said that the event was a first of its kind programme in the history of Raj Bhavan. It was initiated by PB Acharya and wife Kavita Acharya, the updates informed.
The director of the PR & Media of Rotary Club in Mumbai, Manpreet Singh, has announced to adopt two children’s homes from Wokha district as part of his ‘contribution to social responsibility.’
