Rainfall expected in Nagaland, other northeast states— IMD

DIMAPUR — Nagaland and the rest of the northeast Indian states are likely to see rainfall over the next few days as the Bay of Bengal region is set to witness the formation of Cyclone Midhili, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.

According to the All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin published by the IMD on Thursday, a deep depression over west central Bay of Bengal is likely intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm during next 24 hours and eventually make landfall over Bangladesh during the early hours of Saturday.

As a result, it forecast widespread light to moderate showers, along with isolated heavy rains, across the northeastern states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, south Assam and east Meghalaya during the next 72 hours and West Bengal and North Odisha for the next 48 hours.

Light to moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during November 16 to the 18th with very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Mizoram and Tripura on November 17, the bulletin stated.

Besides scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over parts of south peninsular India and Islands, mainly dry weather is likely to prevail over rest parts of the country, it added.
